Roland Barrowman is an Australian trained Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Roland completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at the University of Otago in New Zealand, before relocating to Australia to complete his Medical degree at the University of Melbourne. He was selected in the Victorian Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery specialist training program in Melbourne, and has worked in hospitals across Victoria.

Roland is comprehensively trained in all aspects of the specialty, and has advanced his skillset with fellowship experience in complex facial injuries at The Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia. He then relocated to the UK for further sub-speciality fellowship training in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstructive surgery, at highly regarded units in Glasgow and Bristol. His passion for acquiring knowledge in his chosen field has led him to spend time in facial surgery units across the world in the US, London, Singapore, Brazil, Paris and Istanbul. 

Roland enjoys collaboration with dental and medical colleagues, to achieve excellent patient-centric results. He is trained in the core scope of oral and maxillofacial surgeries, including dental extractions and  implants, hard and soft tissue bone augmentation, TMJ (temporomandibular joint) surgery  and corrective (orthognathic) jaw surgery. His extended scope subspecialty interests include Head and Neck Oncology, Facial Plastic Surgery, and surgery for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. 

Roland is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Australian Osseo-integration Society, the European Association of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeons and the European Association of Facial Plastic Surgeons.

Roland trains advanced surgical trainees at the Austin Hospital, where he works a consultant. Within the unit, he manages patients with a range of conditions from facial deformities, to head and neck cancer. He is part of the Austin Health Head and Neck Cancer multi-disciplinary team, and has published in peer reviewed journals.

Outside of work, Roland enjoys being outdoors, travelling, experiencing different cultures. He enjoys time spent with his wife and two daughters.
